Straddling the Apies River and rolling into the foothills of the lofty Magaliesberg mountains, the administrative capital of Pretoria brought it’s fiery competitive spirit along for the ride this past weekend. Culminating in the first Super Final of the Red Bull Pump Track World Championship, the standard remained high as riders across the country gathered to give it all for the chance to represent their home country in Switzerland later this year.

Eduplex plays host to the first Super Final of the  series

It is here at the sports centre of Eduplex where the first South African Velosolutions Pump Track stretches out over a hefty 211 metres in length. It was a heavy day of racing, with riders powering through in the freezing cold African sun with roaring crowd support spurring them on through the final knockouts and Super Final.

Kane Herbert and Georgina Grassie does it again

Kane Herbert and Georgina Grassie were both there to defend their South African titles and did so in a few close calls during the day’s racing action, but with sheer grit and determination managed to both take the podium again and secure their place in Switzerland later this year.

Hailing from Johannesburg, 30-year-old BMX rider, Kane Herbert took the podium win in a blazing time of 25.34 with fellow BMX rider, Alex Limberg chasing his time right to the end. The 17-year-old BMX dynamo Georgina Grassie was determined to do Durban proud even with Nambian DH rider Stefanie Grossman hot on her heels and she did so in an excellent display of racing in front of the 400 strong crowd.
