Opening of the Stockholm BMX Arena & Pump Track
Last Saturday was the grand opening of Stockholm BMX Arena, a facility with both a BMX track by international standards and a Velosolutions pumptrack. The arena is located in Hökarängen, just outside of Stockholm downtown. In addition to the grand opening, the Swedish BMX Championships were also held and organized by the local cycling club, Älvsjö BMX.
”The track will be extremely important within the sport, which has good future prospects with arenas like this. An absolutely fantastic job has been done here in Älvsjö," says Johan Fransson in an article on scf.se.
The atmosphere was on top with stands full of cheering spectators. Enthusiasm was also great among the competitors, who were over 150 participants with the age between 5 yrs to 40+ yrs.
"This is the first full-sized BMX track built by Velosolutions and we are extremely proud to have been part of this fantastic project," says Johan Lindström from Velosolutions Scandinavia. "Stockholm BMX Arena is the first BMX track in the city of Stockholm with international competition standards and with a pump track over 160 meters long, they have also got a world-class pump track! " Johan continues.
The arena is a project initiated by Älvsjö BMX together with the city of Stockholm and hopes to contribute to a stronger BMX community in Sweden. The track is open to the public and will give more children and young people the opportunity to try out and practice the sport.
